We had a lovely time in this part of Germany. We actually began the day by taking the bus (more public transportation!) into Lubeck. This was on the advice of one of the head waiters on the ship, Wolfgang who was from Germany (duh) and who said Travemunde didn't have much to offer.
Lubeck was nice - we walked around and saw...
...its iconic 15th century Holstentor gateway...
...and a friendly lion...
...some interesting architectral design - I think this was the entrance to the Town Hall...
...Gothic buildings - one of the things Lubeck is known for - here is St. Mary's Church... |
...pretty pretty flowers...
...narrow narrow alleys...
...shopping streets...strictly for browsing purposes only...
...and, of course, marzipan! Also, strictly for browsing purposes only.
Lubeck was okay, but we were tired and ready to hit the road back to Travemunde...
...which was, to Constance and I anyway, way better than Lubeck, thank you very much Wolfgang! Travemunde seemed to be a real tourist destination - with cafes and ice cream shops all along the boardwalk.
At the end of the boardwalk was the beach! It was filled with these colorful striped beach chairs...
Upon leaving Travemunde, people lined up along the pier and we were serenaded by a band!
And at the end of the day, Constance and I, naturally, enjoyed a cocktail in the Tahitian Lounge before dinner....
...and we toasted to...
...and bid farewell to Travemunde.
